New Roofs & Re-Roofs

Roofing guide

New Roofs & Re-Roofs

A re-roof removes failed or ageing coverings so the roof can be rebuilt as a complete weatherproof system. Depending on condition, this may include new membrane, battens, coverings, flashings, ventilation and roofline details.

How it works

Once stripped, the roof structure can be inspected. Sound rafters remain; defects can be addressed before the new underlay and battens are installed. Tiles or slates are then fixed with correctly detailed ridges, verges, valleys and abutments.

Important: The right specification depends on the property, roof pitch, exposure, structure and existing roof condition. A site inspection is the best way to confirm the correct system.

What affects the lifespan of a roof?

Material quality matters, but installation and detailing are equally important. Roof pitch, wind exposure, ventilation, drainage, fixings, junction details and routine maintenance all influence how a roof performs over time.

Signs you may need an inspection

  • Recurring leaks or damp marks
  • Slipped, cracked or missing tiles or slates
  • Daylight visible through the roof space
  • Deteriorated flashing around chimneys or walls
  • Sagging areas or uneven roof lines
  • Persistent moss combined with damaged coverings
  • Blocked or overflowing rainwater systems
